A Talk on Dry Needling with Merz Physical Therapy

Wednesday, March 18, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Dry Needling is a therapeutic procedure to treat muscle and connective tissue pain. Based on neuroanatomy and modern scientific study of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, it involves inserting a filament needle into the myofascial trigger points, prompting a local twitch response to promote relaxation and a natural healing process. The therapy also stimulates neuropathways which block pain by disrupting pain messages being sent to the central nervous system. Dry Needling is performed at Merz Physical Therapy here by Kelly Brouwer, DPT to treat a wide range of conditions, both chronic and acute. Find out more about its benefits and applications at this talk.

Many of you may remember Chuda, a Helping Paws service-dog-in-training, who came here for wheelchair/rehab/pool experience. Chuda now works with his partner, and Wendy has returned to therapy animal work with Getty. Together they are a trained, nationally registered Pet Partner therapy team. You can find them working with Fraser School teachers, at the airport, reading with students, assisting rehab therapists at Courage Center and Children’s Hospital, and visiting with us. Wendy and Getty will be here for scheduled “meet and greets” in our Front Lobby as well as spontaneous visits. When you see them, take a pause, watch a bit of training, and make a new, loving friend!
