With its integrative approach that strengthens the body while focusing on the mind, tai chi is especially useful for improving balance and preventing falls. Studies have shown tai chi to reduce falls in seniors by up to 45%.

Tai chi helps improve balance because it targets the physical components needed to stay upright – ankle flexibility, leg strength, range of motion and reflexes – all of which tend to decline with age. Tai chi also addresses one of the biggest predictors of a fall – the fear of falling – by making you feel firmer on your feet and more aware of your internal body relative to the space around you.
